ABOUT US

THE ARTISTS FOUNDRY

On this page we will tell (and show) you all about the services we provide, and a little about us personally. Over a period of time we will be able to demonstrate our skills on short film clips to allow you to see the processes in operation. Colour and other facets of these steps are hard to describe so the videos will allow  you join us for the entire journey. Our first presentation is the basic part where the molten bronze is poured.

OUR HISTORY

Art of a Fine Nature was founded over 30 years ago by Michael Storey an innovative and energetic artist who’s imagination captured the art world.  He established several foundries in the US and Australia eventually moving to the UK, where Art of A Fine Nature took shape in the Somerset premises where it’s still based today.

Inspired by the alchemy and art, Shane Whitehead joined the foundry in the Millenium, bringing his own artistic integrity and hard work, culminating in his ownership of Art of A Fine Nature when Michael retired from the foundry in 2005.

THE SERVICES WE PROVIDE

Mould Making

Mould Making and Casting

Highly skilled craftsmen and artists work to commission with Art of a Fine Nature providing a bespoke mould making service, for the translation of their work into bronze.  We are proud to work closely with a range of artists across the UK to create sculpture, finished, fettled and patinated in timeless bronze.

Patination in action !

Patination

We specialize in the patination process, a combination of the use of chemicals and heat which produces spectacular results on finished bronze and makes all artists work highly individual, whether it be tradional, abstract or realistic.  The range of finishes provided by the foundry is extensive.

Public Art Commissions

Art of a Fine Nature also provide various Public Art Commissions and have a range of projects for bodies such as Town Councils, Trusts and Art Schools, bringing art to the public eye.  We were commissioned by Sudbury Town Council to make The Sudbury Arts Trail, where a series of 15 sculptures can be found throughout the town, depicting various historical events.

We have reproduced a life sized 7′ seal for The Nelson Project by artist sponsored by the Looe Harbour Trust, the piece originated Suzie Marsh.
